As president of the International Diabetes Epidemiology Group, I would like to invite you to our 2019 16th IDEG Symposium, to be held in Seoul, Korea shortly before the International Diabetes Federation Congress later this year.
IDEG, founded in 1979, has an unbroken tradition of assembling those interested in diabetes epidemiology from around the world to meet and mingle with their colleagues. In the meantime, the burden of diabetes has grown tremendously, and the investigation of diabetes has escaped the confines of endocrinology to become a subject of major import to all those interested in global health.
Our Symposium is an excellent means of obtaining relevant updates and glimpses of future directions in the field, to affirm/reaffirm interest in this vital area, meet the names behind the papers, make contacts, plan collaborative endeavors, and in general move from day-to-day local interests to engagement in issues at the international level. A far cry from the rush of the world´s major diabetes meetings, IDEG´s comfortable size makes all of this possible.
IDEG will once again offer its Training Workshop, a traditional aspect of our meetings aiming to capacitate young investigators interested in diabetes epidemiology. Generously financed by the U.S. CDC, this Workshop will offer financial support for travel and lodging to appropriate candidates attending the Symposium.
I thus invite IDEG regulars, young researchers considering diabetes epidemiology as a future focus, and all those in-between to come to Seoul and enjoy our biannual gathering.
